What Makes Drivers Stay?

Hiring drivers is one thing, but keeping them is another. A lot of carriers focus on getting drivers in the door, but not enough are asking the harder question:
Why do drivers leave?
From our observation, it's rarely just one single thing. It's usually a combination of day-to-day experiences that either add up or, unfortunately, push someone out.
Here are some of the biggest factors that actually make a difference:
Pay that matches reality
It's not just about numbers in the ads. Once a driver is on the job, that number needs to feel accurate. If expectations aren't matching reality, drivers will notice fast!
Consistent miles
A good week followed by a slow week creates uncertainty and might worry a driver. Consistency matters just as much as, if not more than, total miles.
Home time that actually feels like home time
What's promised versus what's experienced can feel quite different. One of the top things that drivers look for in a job is getting home to their family! Those small differences can be a deciding factor.
Communication with dispatch
This is one of the biggest ones! Feeling respected and heard goes a long way. The opposite tends to frustrate drivers and push them out quickly.
Equipment and day-to-day experience
Frustrations like downtime, maintenance issues, and routing inefficiencies add up. Even if everything else is good, the smaller things tend to wear on drivers over time.
Feeling like more than just a number
This is one of our guidelines we try to live by. We will always know you by your name, not your truck number. Drivers want to feel like they matter instead of just being someone on the board.
While we won't pretend to have all of the answers, we do believe that listening, not guessing, is extremely important. If you're looking for a place that's working to get better, you can learn more about driving with us by clicking here.
